The day we become fathers

This is a mistake.
When our child is here, with us, we try to do our best to take our responsabilities and to be present.
When baby cries ? We wake up during the night to help our wife.
When he grows ? We bring our son on the beach to play and have fun with him.
When she’s 5 ? We go with our daughter to theatre to see the last Pixar’s animation movie and to eat pop-corn making noise as loud as we can.
But, whatever they are, all these steps do not make us really feel as fathers.
For sure, we feel adult, responsible, we worry and we do what is important but … we are not fathers.
The day we become fathers is the day when 2 things happen :
- Thing #1 : While looking at our child, we begin to remember the child we were and suddenly, we begin to understand the choices (as difficult or unfair as they seem) that made our own father
- Thing #2 : We see in the look of our child, that, he doesn”t really know how to behave facing a complicated emotional situation and that, the only solution for him is to put all his trouble and confusion into our hands.
This specific day, when these two things happen, then, we take our place and become fathers.
